Do new environments and new experiences scare you?
Believe it or not. This is more common than you would think.
You can be the most confident woman ever but can still feel a little overwhelmed at the thought of something new and out of your comfort zone.
Me for example. If you see me in the gym, that is my environment. So I am the most confident person. I can easily talk to anyone, someone I have never met before and have no awkward silences.
But put me in a new environment, around people I don’t know and I’ll be the quietest person in the room until I feel more safe within the environment.
Now I could easily let this hold me back from doing things and from trying new things, but I dnt. I push through that fear because I know that if I don’t I could potentially miss out on some amazing new experiences.
Take an example of mine from this week.
All through school I played for the netball team and I absolutely loved it, but I didn’t carry on after school. A few years later when I was in university, I went and played again for a team. Sadly I didn’t stick with it as I didn’t feel very welcome within that environment the first night I went. Having that negative experience has held me back for years from trying again but I decided I really missed the sport!
This week I joined another team, who were all so lovely and welcoming. I played the full 40 minute game and whilst I was a bit rusty as its been 13 years since I last played properly and had no practice going straight into a game, I LOVED IT! And even managed to bag the lady of the court! Which has given me the biggest confidence boost since.
If I hadn’t pushed through these barriers or fears, I’d never have gotten back into a sport which I loved growing up!
I am also going to my first reformer pilates class this week which I have wanted to try for the longest time!
So take this as your sign… to do that thing which you’ve wanted to do but have been too scared to do!
