Where do you get your protein?

‘But how do you get your protein in if you’re a vegetarian?’

If I had a pound for every time someone had asked me this since becoming vegetarians id probably be able to take a good amount of time off work!

Yes it is known that meat is our primary source of protein.

But it is not our only source.

Dairy products contain a high amount of protein in them, milk, cheese, yoghurts and egg.

This isn’t me saying you can eat a full block of halloumi cheese to get your protein in, we have to be mindful of the amount of fat in foods like this.

Then you have nuts, seeds and lentils which all contain protein.

And then your more processed foods such as fake meat alternatives and protein shakes.

The one thing I will say is that it is harder to eat less processed foods as a vegetarian but by no means impossible!

The beauty since becoming vegetarian is that I’m so much more inventive with my foods to make sure I am hitting my protein goal daily!

A firm favourite of mine is a mixed bean chilli! Absolutely delicious, not too high in calories and a good amount of protein in! (recipe pending in another blog).

If you are thinking of becoming vegetarian, or you just like mixing some of your meals up don’t panic about not hitting your protein!
